U.S. pet industry expenditure is boosting the retail
According to the American Pet Products Association, the total of pet industry expenditure in the United States will be approximately US $ 69.36 billion in 2017. This means a growth of more than 60% over the last 10 years.
The main category continues to be food, with a total expenditure of $ 28.23 billion in 2016 and an estimate of $ 29.69 for 2017. Observers both inside and outside the industry are looking for clues as to what is driving this performance.
This phenomenal result has been pulling the number of stores and internet retailers.
PetSmart and Petco—No. 1 and No. 2 on the list, with approximately 1,500 and 1,433 locations, respectively—were once again among the leaders when it came to expansion. However, Pet Valu was responsible for adding the most stores, approximately 150 new locations over the past year.
